Kinja'd!!!

I was paid to park my car and eat some food and hang out for way too long in the unheated Uptown Theater in Chicago.

You can see it (well, I can cause I know what to look for) in the background of this flashback scene where Han Solo dies Wayne’s parents are killed. Screenshot from the comic-con trailer on YouTube.

Kinja'd!!!

Not the glamuor shot I was hoping for, but I haven’t seen the movie yet so who knows if it will be any more visible. Enjoy some other pics from the night.

Kinja'd!!!

A pair of Gotham City Cabs.

Kinja'd!!!

Gotham is also a state? And the flashback scene must take place in late 1980 or early 1981 given the fall/winter weather.

Kinja'd!!!

A passerby had to snap a picture of the plate. Note the Avanti in front of me.

Kinja'd!!!

DOTS. Staging before filming. That’s the Lincoln seen in the screen shot above.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Looking out from inside the theater. A pair of gold and white Mercuries.

Kinja'd!!!

The L stop was also transformed.

I wish I could have gotten more pictures, but, as you could imagine, that was frowned upon.

Because then there would be no Batman and thus no Batmobiles. And I’d have probably been kicked off the set and not been paid.

My neighbor behind me has a 60s Fiat 500 and a late 70s Buick LeSabre. He knows a guy who had one of his cars in a movie before and heard about this filming. He knows about my Olds and my dad’s Charger which fit the timeframe they were looking for for the scene and passed the word on to me.

Unfortunately, no, and thankfully, no. I did ask about the plates for sure. But they were seriously just a laminated piece of card stock (if that) that were held on with a clear rubber band. You can see the rubber bands passing vertically through the 4 and F if you embiggen the image of the rear plate. They are technically property of WB or one of those movie companies, but I can easily replicate them myself.

One of the Detroit filming locations was the Ransom Gillis House on (I’m not making this up) Alfred Street. Other nearby locations have “ Wayne ” in their name (WSU, Wayne County Jail, etc.). Did you notice any similar puns on set?

Nope. I think The Mask of Zoro was playing at the theater... But really aside from the plates and changing the names on the train station there wasn’t much to tell you it was Gotham City.

Why didn’t they let me park my

2016 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY AND 8 INCH TOUCH SCREEN NAVIGATION

That fits the time frame right?

If it does not fit you must acquit. They were looking for 70's/early 80's cars.

I see the rubber bands. It’s still cool to have a car in a movie.

Awwww, it’s my old neighborhood!

PS, I do believe you were hanging out in the Riveria Theater or possibly Aragon Ballroom. The Uptown Theater is closed, which is a complete shame because it’s suppose to be fantastic inside.

All the cars in the rest of the movie are FCA products.

Awesome! I was an extra in Moonlight Mile driving my brother’s ‘69 Special. Never made it into the movie. We were the moving background outside the windows of the post office where the girl worked and the scene was when they first meet. Apparently some kind of cat stunt iirc that wasn’t easy to film so they refilmed it about 50 times inside. Outside, we drove forward on que, then backed up to reset into position, then drove through the background again... And again... And again... Problem I had was that the exhaust was too loud, so I would start the car moving, put it in neutral, shut the engine off, coast through the background, then start the engine again to back through into place. The battery died a couple times but it was totally worth it. My brother was filmed as background in a different scene, waiting at a stop sign. He made it into the dvd ‘editing room floor’ extra scenes!

Cool! I was hoping I would get to be one of the driving cars, but after I saw the multiple times they had to drive a block then back up to the start it looked rather boring and not too gentle on the car. Not to imply anything about your brother’s Buick, but I noticed the moving cars were the ones in not so great condition. I guess the imperfections and roughness are less noticeable when moving. But if the scene was set in 1981, then damn the 1981 Mercury Colony Park and my neighbor’s late 70s LeSabre that were rolling in the shot had a rough couple months.

It was very interesting for the first dozen or so times, then it became kind of tedious. And yes, it was very very hard on the car.
